Research Themes

The CLAHRC CP has three main Themes in its research remit:

  1. Child and Adolescent Mental Health (particularly focusing on transitions between these services and adult systems, with some work on autism). The Theme Lead is Professor Ian Goodyer, with Professor Simon Baron-Cohen and Dr Paul Wilkinson.
  2. Adult Disorders (particularly learning disability and long term outcome of head injury). The Theme Lead is Professor Tony Holland, with support from Dr Isabel Clare (funded through the CLAHRC) and Dr Howard Ring.
  3. Old Age & End of Life Care . There are two streams of work that aim to 1) characterise the mental health of older people, improve preventative and treatment interventions, and 2) to facilitate optimal care pathways at the end of life. The mental health in old age theme is led by Dr Tom Dening and the end of life care theme is led by Dr Stephen Barclay.

Implementation Themes

In addition to these three Research Themes, there are three cross-cutting Implementation Themes (see below diagram). These are:

Public Health implementation theme led by Professor Carol Brayne. This is a cross-cutting theme led by the Institute of Public Health. The theme’s work streams endeavour to link the research outputs of the clinical research themes, with public health policy analysis, and evaluation of health interventions.

Service Design and Innovation implementation theme led by  Professor John Clarkson at the Engineering Design Centre (EDC).  This theme focuses on the design of health and social care systems.

Judge Business School implementation theme led by Professor Michael Barrett.  This theme focuses on knowledge translation and service innovation in mental healthcare delivery.
