The focus of our work is on the development of a framework for the analysis and design of health and social care service delivery systems, development of design tools and education and training for managers, commissioners and clinicians.
Research Principles
The following principles shall guide all research activity in the sub-theme:
- To work for what we believe is in the interest of patient benefit, this may be through either direct or indirect influences.
- To develop high quality research evidence on which to act.
- To take a user-centred systems approach to the research (unless discredited by research findings).
- Integrate the design research into the Research Theme’s own research programme so as to help them deliver their own research objectives.
- To disseminate findings and enhance the reputation of the EDC and the CLAHRC through targeted publications in high quality journals, other targeted publication and presentations.
Research Objectives
The EDC will concentrate on improving how healthcare delivery systems are designed; this will be tackled at a number of levels:
- Understanding how health and social care delivery systems are currently analysed, designed and implemented including capturing, assimilating and gathering issues relating to the management of design in healthcare
- Defining the best system analysis and design practices and evaluating them in various healthcare contexts
- Developing design processes to facilitate healthcare system analysis, design and implementation.
- Developing design tools to facilitate healthcare system analysis, design and implementation.
- Developing education and training materials to up skill healthcare practitioners in design practices.
